1. What attracted you to speaking at QA or the Highway?

I support local testing conferences. They build community. Last summer, I organized CAST (Conference of Association for Software Testing) in New York, and right after that, few of us who attended that conference, started NYC Testers Meetup. We now have about 400 members, and our meetups attract 60-80 testers every time.

2. What are you most looking forward to at this year’s conference?

I am looking forward to getting exposed to new ideas in testing, and meeting passionate test professionals. Also, there are few friends – speakers at this conference – who I look forward to get together with.

3. What piece of advice would you give conference attendees to maximize their experience at QA or the Highway?

To maximize the experience at the conference, use any opportunity to engage in conversations with your peers. Make new connections. Discuss what you learned. Hear another side of the story. Argue, confer, and collaborate!

4. How did you become involved in testing?

Accidentally, like 95% of our community.  A better question would be: how did I become involved in community of skilled testers, thought leaders in our profession? My answer is: through peer workshops and conferences. Take an opportunity to participate in such event that is happening a day before QA or The Highway. It’s a one day peer workshop organized by Matt Heusser, and is open for everyone:

5. What are some of you favorite tools in your “testing toolbox”?

One of my favorite tools is a technique called “Group Test”, a special event which has whole team participating in testing.  I published an article on it in STP Online magazine:

6. What are your favorite reading references (books/blogs/etc) that have helped your testing efforts?

James Bach’s Satisfice.com blog is an enormous resource for testers. Michael Bolton’s blog at DevelopSense.com is another great one, especially when you are looking for an eloquent way to discuss skilled testing with your managers.

Anna will be speaking on “Ready, SET, Go!”
